Introduction to Microsoft Word for the Classroom Teacher This course is designed for the teacher who has had limited or absolutely no experience using a word processing program. Using a “baby steps” approach, this course is designed to help you overcome any fear you might have about successfully using your computer. During this course, you will learn how to create a new word processing document, format, edit, save it AND remember where you saved it so you can get back to it again.
To accomplish that, you will … Be invited to get comfortable in the Word environment to explore Ribbons and Tabs OR Menus, Toolbars, keyboard and RIGHT CLICK options, as well as to understand defaults and how to change them – this includes learning the language and vocabulary of Word Create several documents that you can use in your own classroom or teaching situation, such as letters to parents, lesson plans, etc.; also you will create artifacts to post in the Desire2Learn website for review by your Mentor. Be prompted to reflect on how you might be able to apply the various features in your role as a classroom teacher, as well as creating artifacts for your progress in the D2L website.
There are no prerequisites for this course, but you will need to have Microsoft Word 2007 or 2003 and Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer. This course targets NETS-T 1 and NETS-T 5.

Intermediate Word for the Classroom Teacher This course is designed for the teacher who has had some experience using Microsoft. During this course, you will: Build on your existing skills by learning how to work with sections, columns, tables, advanced formatting and editing options, graphics and clipart, WordArt, text boxes and diagrams, styles, document templates, as well as the many aspects of “track changes” feature as an instructional tool. Create multiple documents that you can use in your own classroom or teaching situation, such as letters to parents, lesson plans, advanced organizers, student handouts (both in hard copy and electronic format), etc. Learn to create a variety of Word documents and utilize features such as research and citation skills, specific for your grade level, with Practice sessions and Assignments tailored for either elementary, middle level or senior high school teachers. Learn strategies for using Word with the digital projector to engage students for improving their writing and “re-writing” skills, while modeling ethical use of resources accessed via the Internet

Advanced Word for the Classroom Teacher This course is designed for the teacher who has a very solid grounding in Microsoft Word. During this course, you will: Build on your existing skills by learning how to work with tables, forms, macros, advanced graphics, the control toolbox, styles, themes, document protection, as well as the auto formatting, auto correct options, AutoText and auto content features available through Word. Create personalized letters to parents using Word’s internal mail merge features Explore the advanced collaboration tools in Word Expand on your skills using Word to have students create a variety of documents to let them demonstrate what they have learned from your class Create multiple documents (hard copy and electronic) that you can use in your own classroom, teaching, or professional development situation, such as curriculum materials, guides and resources, dissertations, etc. Learn strategies for integrating the Tablet PC, the digital projector and Internet resources
You will need to have Microsoft Word 2007 or 2003 and Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer. This course addresses all six National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers.
I am continuing to be amazed at what this program (Word) can do. I had no idea what the “outline” view was all about. I’ve used bullets and outlines in Word many times, but I had no idea that you could collapse or expand them or how freely you can move chunks of text around. I also learned about TOC and how it understands the bullets in the outline view. And once the TOC is made how it has a built in hyperlink that will take you directly to that part of your paper. That is very helpful for large documents. Jason M
