General Information

Microsoft Office Courses for the Classroom Teacher –

There are other courses out there that will help people in business figure out how to use Microsoft Office applications.

FRESH PERSPECTIVES offers these courses for you in your role as a classroom teacher.

The key is to find the level of course that is most appropriate for your knowledge/skill level.

FRESH PERSPECTIVES offers you three levels: introductory, intermediate and advanced.

The key is to overcome any fears and simply learn to succeed.

FRESH PERSPECTIVES supports you with step by step instructions and mentored feedback.

These courses will use either Microsoft Office 2007 for Windows or Microsoft Office 2003 for Windows. Be sure to specify your software choice when you register.

Each course requires approximately 15 total hours of study, to be completed within a 6 week course session. Lessons will be sent by email weekly and may be completed any time within the six-week session window. Assignments and reflections are due at the mid-point and conclusion of the courses.

The culminating activity is a performance assessment relevant to the teacher’s classroom needs, based on the content being covered in the course. Expectations for that assessment will be presented throughout the course so that participating teachers will clearly understand what they will be expected to create.

In addition to learning the content and processes described, these courses are designed to be as practical as possible for teachers, with assignments focused on creating products that the teacher can really use.

Each course will emphasize the variety of options for accomplishing tasks in Office.

In each course, participants will be asked to reflect on classroom applications relevant to their teaching responsibilities.

Finally, in each course, participants in the HP Technology for Teaching program will create artifacts that they can post in the Desire2Learn website for review by their mentor.

I found this PowerPoint class to be really useful.  I liked the fact that most of the time was spent actually learning techniques and practicing them.  Too often, professional development classes involve too much discussion and not enough practical work.  Many of the skills I learned in this class I will use in my teaching.

The most valuable part of the lessons is still the screen shots.  As a visual learner, they help me find my way when I get lost.

I thought this class was well worth the time and effort I put into it. Not only do I know how to use the program but now I have a working PPT presentation to use in my classroom. I thought the class was easy to follow, interesting and particularly relevant to a visual arts classroom. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

I learned that Stan’s directions make more sense than the built-in Help.
