Microsoft Office Excel

        2007        or     2003        (for Windows)

Introduction to Microsoft Excel for the Classroom Teacher

This course is designed for the teacher who has had limited or absolutely no experience using a computer-based spreadsheet program. It’s time to get over any “spreadsheet-phobia” you may be harboring.

During this course, you will:

Learn how to create a new Excel spreadsheet, format, edit, save it AND remember where you saved it so you can get back to it again.

To accomplish that, you will …

Be invited to get comfortable in the Excel environment to explore ribbons and tabs OR menus, toolbars, keyboard and RIGHT CLICK options, headers and footers, as well as to understand defaults and how to change them – this includes learning the language and vocabulary of Excel

Create several documents that you can use in your own classroom or teaching situation (such as inventories, class lists, grade sheets, seating charts, rubrics, etc.) to help you learn how to collect, organize, analyze and present both text and numeric data

Learn to use formulas and functions to automatically update mathematical calculations

Learn to apply formatting to data cells, rows and columns to help turn “data” into useful “information”

Learn to create charts that will help you capture and communicate the key relevant information contained in the data

Learn a variety of printing options

There are no prerequisites for this course, but you will need to have Microsoft Excel 2007 or 2003, Microsoft Word 2007 or 2003 and Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer.

This Excel class has been great.  The pictures that were provided made it very easy to follow.  I feel very comfortable using the formulas and inserting a graph or chart.  These are two things that I had never done before.  I now know how large one spreadsheet can be and that many different tabs can be added to help organize the material.  I can’t wait to get started on creating my grade book and using all of the new skills that I have learned.                                                          Shannon K

I have to say that this is one course where I can use so much from what I learned, not only for myself, but for my students.  As a math teacher, I can show my students how to create formulas, charts, and tables, predict patterns, collect, organize, customize, and analyze graphs.  The possibilities are endless.                     Dora G

This was a very well organized and helpful class.  In fact, out of all the classes I have taken through the distance learning program at Adams State, this is the one that has been the most beneficial to me.                                      GREAT Class!                                                                                                                                                               Laura V.
