Introduction to Microsoft Word for the School Administrator

This course is designed for the administrator who has had limited or absolutely no experience using a word processing program. Using a “baby steps” approach, this course is designed to help you overcome any fear you might have about successfully using your computer.

During this course, you will learn how to create a new word processing document, format, edit, save it AND remember where you saved it so you can get back to it again.

 

To accomplish that, you will …

Get comfortable in the Word environment to explore Ribbons and Tabs, keyboard and RIGHT CLICK options, as well as to understand defaults and how to change them – this includes learning the language and vocabulary of Word

Create several documents that you can use in your own role as administrator (e.g. parent letters, newsletters, faculty meeting agendas, Board presentations, and other documents, etc.)

Be prompted to reflect on how you might be able to apply the various features in your role as a classroom teacher, as well as creating artifacts for your progress in the D2L website.

 

There are no prerequisites for this course, but you will need to have Microsoft Word 2007 and Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer.

This course targets NETS-A 2 (LEARNING AND TEACHING), NETS-A 3 (PRODUCTIVITY AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE), NETS-A 5 (ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION), and NETS-A 6 (SOCIAL, LEGAL, AND ETHICAL ISSUES).

 

 

Introduction to Microsoft Excel for the School Administrator

This course is designed for the administrator who has had limited or absolutely no experience using a spreadsheet program. It’s time to get over any “spreadsheet-phobia” you may be harboring. This age of data-driven decision-making is much simpler if you have a solid foundation in Excel.

During this course, you will:

Learn how to create a new Excel spreadsheet, format, edit, save it AND remember where you saved it so you can get back to it again.

To accomplish that, you will …

Be invited to get comfortable in the Excel environment to explore ribbons and tabs, keyboard and RIGHT CLICK options, headers and footers, as well as to understand defaults and how to change them – this includes learning the language and vocabulary of Excel

Create several documents that you can use in your own school or administrative situation (such as inventories, class lists, grade sheets, rubrics, etc.) to help you learn how to collect, organize, analyze and present both text and numeric data

Learn to use formulas and functions to automatically update mathematical calculations

Learn to apply formatting to data cells, rows and columns to help turn “data” into useful “information”

Learn to create charts that will help you capture and communicate the key relevant information contained in the data

Learn how to import testing and other data for more effective data analysis

Learn a variety of printing options

 

 There are no prerequisites for this course, but you will need to have Microsoft Excel 2007, Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer.

Microsoft PowerPoint for the School Administrator       

This is intended for the PowerPoint rookie. There are no real prerequisites for this class. If you have worked with a computer at all, especially if you have some familiarity with Microsoft Word, you should be able to learn a great deal about presentation technology from this basic course.

During this course, you will learn how to create a PowerPoint slideshow, save, edit, format it AND remember where you saved it so you can get back to it again.

To accomplish that, you will …

Be invited to get comfortable in the PowerPoint environment to explore ribbons and tabs, keyboard and RIGHT CLICK options, as well as to understand defaults and how to change them – this includes learning the language, vocabulary and grammar of PowerPoint

Learn to create presentations in a variety of ways (blank presentation, from a design template, or using the AutoContent Wizard)

Create several presentations that you can use for faculty meetings or board presentations to help you present information to a variety of audiences

Learn to insert a variety of objects and apply a variety of formatting options to enhance your presentation

Explore a variety of output and printing options

Be prompted to reflect on how you might be able to apply the various features in your role as a classroom teacher and model of ethical technology use

 

You will need to have Microsoft PowerPoint 2007, Microsoft Word 2007 and Adobe Acrobat. Reader
