These courses will use either Microsoft Office 2007 for Windows or Microsoft Office 2003 for Windows. Be sure to specify your software choice when you register. Each course requires approximately 15 total hours of study, typically to be completed within a 6 week course session. Lessons will be sent by email weekly and may be completed any time within the six-week session window. Assignments and reflections are due at the mid-point and conclusion of the courses. The culminating activity is a performance assessment relevant to the teacher’s instructional needs, based on the content being covered in the course. Expectations for that assessment will be presented throughout the course so that participating teachers will clearly understand what they will be expected to create. In addition to learning the content and processes described, these courses are designed to be as practical as possible for teachers, with assignments focused on creating products that the teacher can really use. Each course will emphasize the variety of options for accomplishing tasks in Office. In each course, participants will be asked to reflect on classroom applications relevant to their teaching responsibilities. Requirements All courses require Microsoft Office 2007 or 2003 running on Windows, Adobe Acrobat Reader, access to the Internet and a valid email account. Access to coursework While these courses were originally designed for teachers in schools that have received the HP Technology for Teaching grant, access is open to any interested educator. Tuition The tuition for each course is $125. NOTE: tuition for the three course “Boot Camp” is only $300. Recertification Credit A Certificate of Completion for fifteen hours of professional development activities will be forwarded to successful learners at the end of the course. Check with your district or state for prior approval of Contact Hours. Graduate Credit Option Tuition with graduate credit option is available for an additional $80 for each selected course. The one hour of graduate credit is available either through the Division of Extended Studies at Adams State in Colorado or Chapman University College in California on a Pass/Fail basis. This can also be combined with follow-up on-line work in a hybrid format. Student comments: I found this PowerPoint class to be really useful. I liked the fact that most of the time was spent actually learning techniques and practicing them. Too often, professional development classes involve too much discussion and not enough practical work. Many of the skills I learned in this class I will use in my teaching. Melissa C The most valuable part of the lessons is still the screen shots. As a visual learner, they help me find my way when I get lost. Cheryl M I thought this class was well worth the time and effort I put into it. Not only do I know how to use the program but now I have a working PPT presentation to use in my classroom. I thought the class was easy to follow, interesting and particularly relevant to a visual arts classroom. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Alyssa W I learned that Stan’s directions make more sense than the built-in Help. Barb H |
